Quote of the Day

CNN.com:

Not to be flip, but Miley Cyrus is older than Bill Clinton's "don't ask, don't tell." That doesn't mean that the safety of gay people should be trivialized or that Obama should not be held accountable for the promises he made on the campaign trail. But to call this month's first-ever White House reception for GLBT leaders "too little too late" is akin to a petulant child throwing a tantrum because he wants to eat his dessert before dinner. This is one of the main reasons why so many blacks bristle at the comparison of the two movements -- everybody wants to sing the blues, nobody wants to live them.

This lack of perspective is only going to alienate a black community that is still very proud of Obama and is hypersensitive about any criticism of him, especially given he's been in office barely six months.

If blacks are less accepting of gays than other racial groups -- and that is certainly debatable -- then the parade of gay people calling Obama a "disappointment" on television is counterproductive in gaining acceptance, to say the least. And the fact that the loudest critics are mostly white doesn't help matters either.

LZ Granderson (CNN)

Dan Savage Responds:

"it's not just white gay people who are upset with Barack Obama: LZ Granderson meet Pam Spaulding."

It's always amazing to me how people play the race card, and still try to segregate themselves, much like Granderson is doing. Can White folks, or even Gay White Folks express their problem with this President, without being told "Oh your not allowed to do that, because Blacks are in love with the President". I say that is bullshit, and second many Gay Black Men and Women have also spoken out on the lack of effort by this President to live up to his promises. Granderson need not to make this about race, it's simply about equality and holding a President responsible for his promises!

Hate Crimes Bill Passes The Senate

Posted by Rob in ,

Pam's House Blend:

"The Senate has approved the most sweeping expansion of federal hate crimes protections since the original law was enacted after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.

The legislation broadens federal reach to protect those physically attacked because of their gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or a disability. Current law is limited to crimes motivated by race, ethnicity or religion..."

I want to add that according to the report, 5 Republicans went along with the passage of the Bill.

I have mixed feelings on Hate Crime Laws, just because I'm not sure what effect it does, except longer Prison Terms. The reality is longer Prison Terms will not stop someone who is hateful. However if we have protections based on Race or Religion, and people are targeted based on Race and or Religion, than it seems fitting we also include LGBT people, who are also targets of violent crimes.

Movie Review - Valkyrie

Posted by Rob in , ,

I just finished watching this movie starring Tom Cruise, and I was really impressed. I have been thrown off by Tom Cruise since his Oprah break down, but I have to give the man allot of credit, he did a great job in Valkyrie.

Valkyrie centers around a plot to kill Hitler, a inside job. The movie centers on the last failed attempt to kill Hitler, in which we see those who tried to kill Hitler, be executed.

The major point that his movie reminded me of, is evil does exist, but we cannot generalize everyone into a single group. Much like we see today in Iran, people are and do stand up against tyranny, not everyone who was associated with Nazism was a bad person, and some died fighting against what Nazism and Hitler became. Today we see that in in the Islamic world, and we often forget the first victims of Islamic Terrorism, are innocent Muslims.

"Mr Price said he was "trying to make the world free of homosexuals," who live lives devoted to "sex and drugs." ... Mr Price said he was a "cured" homosexual and now lived in Noosa working as a registered nurse."

Dang, I didn't even know I was addicted or devoted to sex and drugs, guess I better get rehab since Mr. Price knows what those gays are all about.

Maybe being gay was not Price's problem, the problem was HE was addicted to sex and drugs?

I should also point out that Mr. Price says he wants Homosexuals removed from the face of the earth, kinda sounds like Ahmadinejad when he said a similar thing about Israel. Going back to what I have said before, there is not much of a difference between Religious Fundamentalist.

Pastor: "God Told Me To Abuse You"

Posted by Rob in ,

Associated Press:

TEXARKANA, Ark. — A woman who says she was a child bride of evangelist Tony Alamo told jurors Wednesday that the minister had so many partners that he had to schedule when he would have sex with them.

The woman, now 30 and living in Florida, said she was a third-generation Alamo follower into adulthood — until the Arkansas-based pastor took an 8-year-old as his latest bride. At one point, the woman said, she objected when Alamo graphically described how he fondled the girl as she held a stuffed animal.

"He told me to shut up and that I shouldn't question what `the Lord told me to do,'" the woman said.

Now this is some freaky stuff, and reminds me of the Church I grew up in. From about 2 years old until I was about 15, I grew up in a Church where this Pastor would have oral sex with Women in the Church, part his "Counseling", and he would often use the phrase "The Lord Told Me", to do such and such.

Bad memories is all I can say!

A Step Forward For The Episcopal Church

Posted by Rob in ,

365gay.com:

Leaders of the Episcopal Church, the Anglican province in the United States, insisted they were still committed to membership in the Anglican Communion. Some Anglican leaders, however, predicted the vote would break their fellowship.
The Episcopal General Convention, meeting in Anaheim, Calif., gave final approval to the measure during their once-every-three-years legislative assembly, which runs through Friday.

“God has called and may call” gays in committed relationships to “any ordained ministry” in the church, the resolution says.

Lay people voted 78-21 and clergy voted 77-19 to approve the measure. The House of Bishops had earlier voted 99-45 to adopt the statement. In the debates, delegates said they worried about the reaction of other Anglicans, but felt a duty to vote yes.

“I personally believe we had to do this,” said John Cheek, a delegate from the Diocese of Western Massachusetts, based in Springfield. “It’s the way we see the Gospel.”

The Episcopal Church in the United States has always been on the forefront of Progress, which obvious makes those who believe in traditional values mad. Early on the Episcopal Church was the home of people who were not exactly your traditional Christians, people who thought outside the box, including some of the founding Fathers of this great Nation. In the 1970's, The Episcopal Church was on the front lines of the Women's movement, as they are today for Gay Rights.

Now I do believe that The Episcopal Church may at some point cut ties with the Anglican Community, but there is one reason that won't happen anytime soon, Money. The fact remains the Episcopal Church in the United States contributes more money to the Anglican Community than any other area around the globe that is part of the Anglican Community. While some Anglican Conseveratives may not like the progress of the Episcopal Church in the United States, they still want our money.

As far as Faith goes, there are some who feel you cannot be a Christian and Gay at the same time, might I point out that traditional believers had this belief about allot of things, there has always been certain people in the Church that would exclude rather than be inclusive. However, my faith in Christ tells me that all people are the Children of God, no matter who they are, or how different they are. Certainly religious folks will disagree on sin, but it is my personal feeling that the Episcopal Church is doing the right thing by being inclusive, because in the end we are all called to be part of God's family, and his Church.

As a Episcopillian I'm very proud of my Church!

The Pitch Controversey

Posted by Rob in , ,

Well as usual, the Conservatives and Obama haters are at it again, with their usual stupid outrages, and whiny bullshit. Last night President Obama made the first pitch at the MLB 2009 All Star Game. Some Conservatives, are complaining that it was a horrible pitch, and thus he is a horrible President. Now having seen the pitch, I did not think it was a bad pitch, was it the best? No, than again Obama has said he never played much baseball, so it would be a given he would not throw a great pitch.

How good a President can throw a ball is not what we should judge them by, hell Bush could throw a baseball, and we know how much of a nightmare those 8 years were!

Here is the video from Obama's pitch, again I don't think it was that bad:

Peter LaBarbera A Threat To Children?

Posted by Rob in ,

Most who read this blog and other LGBT based blogs, are well aware of Americans for Truth and Peter LaBarbera. One of Peter's main goals is to protect Children from the evil gays! Peter is a very religious man, at least when it comes to the gays, he's always ready and willing to expose how sick those gays are.

His latest example of this is the Folsom Street Fair. Now of course Peter is obsessed with anything that might have to do with Gays or fetishes, in fact he goes around the Country trying to find out the best place for Gay fetishes so he can tell his readers or sexual deviants who claim to hate it, just what those pesky gays are up to. Now Peter would claim he is protecting the Children, but his latest actions prove he is a threat to Children. While at the Folsom Street Fair kids are not allowed, but on YouTube they are! Peter LaBarbera posted a video that included sexual acts on YouTube, where Children could easily see the video. Now of course this violated YouTube's rules, and the video has been removed.

So yes Peter, we gays may be evil and twisted, or just better at sex than you, but at least none of my YouTube videos have been pulled because of Porn, you Sir should be ashamed to have put up such a video so Children could see it, have you no decency? Oh that's right you don't!

Entertainment is not a Bad Thing

Posted by Rob in

Over the weekend I watched UFC 100, and after the event all you heard about was Brock Lesnar giving the crowd a 1 finger salute, and than him apologizing. One of the things I heard in Brock Lesnars obvious forced apology, was he was use to entertainment, pointing back his days in the WWE, where entertainment is important, action or fighting not so much.

This seems to be the feel among many people who watch MMA, they seem to be anti Pro-Wrestling. Now make no mistake I love Pro-Wrestling, I have since I was a kid, but I also like MMA, and I think Dana White and others are missing the point. Entertainment is good! Sure we can talk about how the WWE is scripted or fake (although calling something fake is a insult, considering the work and effort many Pro-Wrestlers put into their craft), but it is entertaining. Sure you don't want MMA to be scripted, that is part of the appeal it is REAL, but entertainment is good.

What does every good movie have? A VILLAIN. Right now in the UFC, Brock Lesnar is the biggest villain there is, and I think the UFC should use that to it's advantage. I hate the fact that Lesnar apologized, first because I hate fake apologies, and second because his actions were entertaining, and like it or not pure fighting will only take you so far, adding some entertainment will make it more appealing.

Now let me finish with, I don't blame Lesnar's reaction. Lesnar was busting his ass in the octagon, while these know it all's, who probably could not win a fight in their real lives are booing him, frankly I don't blame him. Did he lack class? Sure, but it was real raw emotion, and I love that.

Hate the WWE all you want, the bottom line is Millions of people watch the WWE each week, UFC can only wish that had that appeal right now, but they can if they embrace a little entertainment with pure fighting.

Sad Story

Posted by Rob in

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Investigators asked the public to be on the lookout Friday for a red van they believe carried three men involved in the deaths of a Florida Panhandle couple who were shot in their rural home while eight of their children slept.

Surveillance cameras showed the van at the home of Byrd and Melanie Billings in Beulah, a rural area west of Pensacola near the Alabama border, Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan said. The children were unharmed.

The sheriff's office released an enhanced but still grainy photograph of a red, 15-passenger van dating to the late 70s or early 80s.

Morgan said investigators did not know who killed the wealthy couple known for adopting children with developmental disabilities, many born to drug-addicted mothers.

Investigators are also awaiting autopsy results on the couple to learn more about the killings, he added.

Morgan said eight of the children, ages 8 to 14, were in the home when the couple was killed Thursday evening. A woman who lives in an outlying building and helps care for the children called emergency dispatchers from the home.

Deputies had to wake some of the children after they arrived, authorities said.

Investigators interviewed the children, who are now staying with other family members, Morgan said.

The Billings had 16 children, 12 of them adopted. They married 18 years ago and each had two children from previous marriages. The couple then began adopting children with developmental disabilities and other problems.

The couple owned several local businesses, including a finance company and a used car dealership.

In a 2005 story in the Pensacola News Journal, the couple said they wanted to share their wealth with children in need, but didn't imagine their family would grow so large.

"It just happened," Melanie Byrd told the newspaper. "I just wanted to give them a better life."

GLAAD Can Bite Me

Posted by Rob in ,

You know if there is one thing that bugs me, it's organizations or people going around telling me what I should like or not like. The latest is GLAAD going after the Movie "Bruno" because it reinforces negative gay stereotypes.

Does Bruno reinforce gay stereotypes? Sure it does, but it's a MOVIE, it's meant to be humorous and funny, and from what I have seen it does look funny. The same guy did Borat, which was a really funny film.

People need to relax some, and enjoy life. There is nothing wrong with making jokes about gays, or gay humor. Sure some will like the movie and some won't, but it's not that big of a deal, it's just a MOVIE!

It's Not All Gay For Me

Posted by Rob in

It's time once again, that I share some deep personal feelings on a subject, that really bothers me, it's not meant to offend anyone, but rather how I see the world.

I came out originally back in 2000, I remember it just like it was yesterday on my way to the Michigan State Fair, and telling my Mother I was gay, to which she responded, "no shit", or something like that, basically she was not shocked. From that moment I have had my up's and down's, both in my faith and my sexuality. Coming to terms with ones true being, and ones chosen faith is very difficult. I did not choose my sexuality, but I have chosen my faith, my Religion and my Church. Over the past 9 years I have learned allot, but I have probably learned the most in the past 2-3 years.

Now along the way I have met some really cool people, and some really close friends. Justin, without a doubt has been and remains my closest friend. I knew Justin long before we ever knew what blogging was about, in fact when I first started blogging I invited Justin to do it with me, but he was not that interested, how that has changed. Justin has always been someone I have admired, he worked with both President Reagan and Bush, he had raised 2 boys, into admirable Men, he watched one fight in Iraq, and I will always remember how scared he was when his Son went to Iraq, and how pissed he was when he came home injured. However it's more than just that, Justin showed me that being gay isn't always about drag shows, and being the star of the show, or the spotlight queen, it's really just about being who you are, and being also a down to earth individual.

I say all of this bringing me to my point, Justin was never "Mr. Gay Guy wooooohoooooo", he was a guy who happened to be gay. On the other hand I have met people along the way, that everything they do or say, is all about their sexuality. Justin is not like that, and I have never been like that. To some extent I find that sort of attribute in people, to be very annoying. I know of people that if it is a gay movie, they will watch it, they will have it, if anything about it is remotely gay, they got to have it, but I wonder what purpose does that serve? Have we reached a point in the gay rights movement, that it's almost about segregating ourselves, and not about fitting into the scheme of things? When we make everything gay, have we become so focused on our sexuality, that it consumes us?

There is one phrase I don't like, it's simply "I'm Gay". Although it's difficult to explain sexuality in any other way, I just don't care for it. I may be attracted to the same sex, but that's not who I am, neither is someone who is attracted to the opposite sex. I think when we define this as being who we are, we are missing a great chance to really show people who we are, for as people gay or straight, we are far more complex than our sexuality. If I based who I am based on my sex life, I would be dull, boring and done by half time! We are not simply gay, we are far more than that, and by focusing on our sexuality we never go further than that.

This brings me to the Religious Right. It is the religious right, the anti-gay crowd that in some ways makes us focus on our sexuality, because they in fact are focused on it. They need to be focused on it, because that is how Religion controls the masses, they guilt trip people into believing something is wrong with them, when they are perfectly fine, maybe out of "norm", but perfectly fine. We must change the subject, it's not about being gay or straight, or even Liberal of Conservative (which sometimes Gay Advocates try to make it seem like ones must be Liberal to be gay), it is simply about freedom. Dick Cheney (who I despise like a toothache), says it best "Freedom, means freedom for everyone."

Let me close with this, being gay is part of me, but it is not me. I don't need everything in my life to be gay, because I refuse to segregate myself. When people say "support gay business's", I say I support whatever is the best business for my lifestyle, which tends to be cheap. When someone says support a Gay Politician, I say what are his views, while we may have something in common in the bedroom, I don't plan on going to bed with him, so his political and social views are important to me. When people say, buy this gay movie or that gay movie, I say why? What's the story, is it just because it's gay? If so I will pass, having watched many gay films one thing rings true, about 80% of them suck.

It's not all gay for me, because I'm more than just that.

What's The Beef?

Posted by Rob in ,

So a big deal is being made at possibly President Obama checking out a Woman who definitely 'got back'. I don't really get it, so what if he checked out a nice looking Woman, what's wrong with that? Everyday people check out each other, and frankly the good looking ones should be looked at, maybe admired, because if you ever been to a local Carnival, it's a nice change of pace to see someone with all their teeth, and not smelling like manure!

So now that you have watched the video, and are deciding if Obama is immoral, or if he is innocent, a classic reminder of what Baby Got Back is all about!

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.

There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I'm Not A Jew Dammit!

Anna Kournikova wants you to know she is not Jewish:

When freelance photographer Carrie Devorah congratulated Miss Kournikova with the common Hebrew/Yiddish expression "mazel tov," the Russian beauty asked what that meant. When the photog explained it means congratulations and good luck, Miss K, according to Ms. Devorah, snapped, "I am not Jewish - can't you see my cross?"

Because everyone knows the worse thing you could possibly be is Jewish? What about that Cross, it symbolizes one of the greatest Men to walk this Earth, he wasn't Jewish he was a good guy....oh wait, that's right he was Jewish!

I don't get the hate for Jews or any group of people, there is nothing wrong with being a Jew or being mistaken for a Jew, what would be wrong is being mistaken for a Yankee fan when your a Red Sox fan, now that's a killer!

How Does This Make You Feel?

Posted by Rob in , ,

This is a interesting quote that Andrew Sullivan posted on his blog, it was written by another blogger, but I did find it interesting:

"John McCain is unqualified to be Commander-in-Chief. McCain is a guy of rather mediocre intellect, little curiosity, and very poor and impulsive decision-making skills. He’s vain and headstrong, and he easily turns opposition over matters of policy or politics into personal vendettas. He became a political commodity in 1973 because he embodied the right-wing working-class value of patriotism under duress at a moment when patriotism and the white working class felt under attack for their complicity in a disastrous foreign war. And he was seized upon by a desperate Republican Party in political free-fall; in the thick of Watergate, the Nixon administration launched him as a political celebrity. He then parlayed that notoriety into a political career a few years down the road. He certainly has a substantial amount of charm and an instinct for playing the press, and he’s hardly the dumbest guy in the Senate. But he is not a responsible or serious person. And to a great degree, when he met Sarah Palin, he probably felt he was looking at a younger version of himself. Which is to say that the “rot” in the GOP, the eagerness to substitute celebrity and resentful pseudo-patriotic gibberish for real political discussion, goes back a lot longer than 8 years."

It would be a understatement for me to say that I disagree with this writers opinions of John McCain, in fact I have always liked McCain prior to the 2008 election. I always found McCain to be a common sense thinking man, even if I disagreed with him, he had class, and still does. I was disgusted with how the GOP treated McCain in 2000, as I think as a American Hero, he deserved better. Having said that, I do believe he sold out to get the GOP Nomination, many times here both Justin and I have pointed out during the 2008 election how McCain would flip flop from one month to the next, based on whatever was popular among the Rush Limbaugh crowd. However I still admire McCain, and feel he does a great service to our Country in the Senate, especially when it comes to fiscal conservatism which I believe in, and ending pork spending, which is something we should be all for.

John McCain deserves better, it's unfortunate his own party does not respect him as much as they should..

I should also point out I looked to see if the writer was a Republican or Democrat, I could not find that out, but with McCain it could be either.
